The past 3 weeks or so I have dedicated a lot of my time to paying off credit cards.
I decided I needed to take a break from that, so I went on eBay and Craigslist....
I actually looked into making my Acer Aspire One into a Hackintosh, but I wasn't successful in tracking down a hacked copy of drivers for my machine.
The last couple of weeks I have been looking through eBay and Craigslist to find a Powerbook G4 (12, 15 or 17 inch) or a early MacBook Pro (Intel Core 2 Duo) or even a MacBook. My budget was around $450. (Much less than my former $1700 MacBook Pro that I used as a desktop replacement for a while)
Yesterday I found a sweet deal on a top of the line 17" PowerBook G4 1.67Mhz, so sweet was the price that I figured I would just sell it as the guy didn't really price it very intelligently (he was asking $300! It was worth $700 easily). It turns out the guy was 14 years old! I stopped contacting him at that point.
I then found a Black MacBook 2.2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo for $550. I offered the guy $475 and he agreed, when I got to his office he mentioned that the left hinge on the lid was not aligned correctly. I pretended that this mattered to me, and I got the MacBook for $400! A quick search on eBay would reveal that these trade around $750. It literally took me 5 minutes to fix the hinge when I got home. This laptop retailed for $1499 a year and half ago and runs really great! He had just installed a new hard drive and re-installed OS X Tiger. I love Craigslist and sellers who have no idea what they are doing or have no patience.
I stopped by Fry's on the way home from work to look for RAM (I want to upgrade it to 4GB) and OS X Snow Leopard. Fry's had neither so I bought Fight Club and the EPIC summer blockbuster Star Trek for my Blu-Ray collection.
