Ben is doing it himself.

Apparently the power loss and rough idle of my E36 M3 was caused by fouled plugs. The plugs were fouled because they were being soaked in oil. The plugs were soaked in oil because the valve cover gasket was leaking oil into the spark plug holes.   Another problem caused by the oil leak was that the rubber electrical contacts that mate the coilpacks to the spark plugs started to disintegrate which caused the plugs to lose spark.

Easy enough fix, I did this before on my former E36 325is way back in the day (now Aris' car)

What I had to buy:

  • 1 x Valve Cover Gasket kit (3 gaskets)
  • 6 x Bremi spark plug boots
  • 6 x NGK Platinum spark plugs
While in there I decided to do a quick paint job on the valve cover to black.

The car now runs very smooth with a lot more power everywhere on the tachometer.  The car is a pleasure to drive again!
